Do you want a recipe for oatmeal raisin cookies that tastes delicious. And, to top it off, to make it even better… you can make completely organic, too?! Well, I want to share one with you!
Not Only Are These Delicious, They are Organic, Too!
Since I found out that eating organic foods significantly reduces my migraines, I have been trying to eat a completely organic diet. Luckily, eating organic doesn’t mean I have to go without tasty treats! Ask anyone here on the homestead and they will tell you: I really like food!
Everything in these cookies can be bought organically. I have found, and have, everything on the ingredient list in it’s organic form. Except the salt and baking soda. Luckily, it doesn’t appear that salt and baking soda have to be organic. Since I wasn’t able to find any organic salt or baking soda, I did a little research online. I found out that there is a limited, approved list of allowed ingredients, and other additives, in foods. This list is approved by the USDA National Organic Program, and covers non-synthetic processing aids as well as a limited selection of synthetic substances that are not manufactured wide-scale enough to be otherwise used in cooking and agriculture. This list includes salt and baking soda. So, even though the salt and baking soda aren’t considered organic, these are still organic cookies! As long as all the other ingredients used are organic.
I have found that Costco, QFC, Albertsons, and Safeway have great organic choices. You can also go to natural health food stores, but they tend to be a little more expensive. Amazon.com is also a great way to purchase hard to find organic items. In my search of buying organic foods, I have found that buying organic doesn’t have to be too expensive as long as you shop around… And that organic food can still taste delicious.
I hope you try making these cookies, whether you use organic ingredients or not, and enjoy them as much as I do!
