I am very excited to be sharing this recipe for crispy, homemade whole wheat waffles with you. They are crispy on the outside while still being soft and chewy on the inside! In other words, they are perfect!
Whole Wheat Waffles
The other day my kids said they wanted waffles for breakfast. I had two choices. Making waffles from a store bought package mix (like Bisquick) or making homemade waffles. I hesitated with the homemade route because all the recipes I’ve tried in the past, I could never recreate that crispy waffle texture I love so much. They would just turn out kind of soft and spongy. So, I was just about ready to go with thatĀ store bought waffle mix. Instead of doing the healthy thing. But, since we’ve been trying to eat more organic and healthy foods lately, it just felt wrong to go the easy route.
Whole Wheat Waffles- Perfected
So, with that in mind, I decided to try my hand in making homemade waffles, once again. But, instead of searching the internet for a recipe, like I have done in the past, I decided to just modify my homemade whole wheat pancake recipe. Checking out other recipes and mixes, I was able to see what the differences were between pancakes and waffles. This meant I needed to tweak the recipe only a little. I was a bit surprised, but they turned out great. And on the first try! They were crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and tasted delicious! I was so excited, I knew I had to share the recipe.
I hope this recipe works for you and you enjoy these waffles as much as I do!

With a family as large as ours we need to cook multiple waffles at a time, as I’m sure you can imagine. To help with this, we useĀ this amazing double Belgian waffle maker! Takes up less counter space. It makes nice deep holed waffles to hold plenty of yummy buttery goodness. And, finally, it cooks up 2 waffles in half the time!
